GUTTERGRIN THE GARGOYLE - Cecilia Oldmeadow

An unusual story in which Corrie, the young heroine climbs onto a coach house roof to reach an old gargoyle. It speaks to her about a book, through which she is transported into a number of fairy tale and mythical stories, including, among others, The Goose and the Golden Eggs, A Sacred Serpent, Icarus, King Alfred's Cakes, Aladdin, Cinderella and Dick Whittington's Cat.

The book is undated but believed to have been published in 1934. On the front free end paper is a Christmas present dedication written in ink by a former owner, dated Xmas 1943. The book shows signs of its age with some discolouration to the blue cloth boards, light bumping to spine ends and corners, and a little light wear along edges; text block edges are tanned, as are a couple of end papers. Illustrated by Marie Keane with ten full-page b/w illustrations and four colour plates. One of the b/w illustrations has been neatly coloured in with crayon.

Please see pictures for further description.
